Urgent humidity issues were identified within a major retailer’s store environment, requiring immediate intervention to prevent ongoing condensation and disruption.

Cross Hire Services delivered a full turnkey temporary desiccant dehumidification solution, installed with minimal disruption to trading. The system provided a significant reduction in condensation, improved product visibility and enhanced in-store comfort.

The Challenge

• A major retailer was dealing with ongoing humidity and condensation issues across the sales floor, particularly around customer-facing refrigerated units.
• Excess airborne moisture within the retail space was causing visible condensation on fridge doors and displays, affecting overall store presentation and customer experience.
• The existing HVAC system struggled to cope with the volume of warm, moisture-laden air entering the store, leading to unstable humidity levels.
• Persistent condensation around refrigerated displays resulted in an increased risk to product quality and overall energy efficiency.
• An urgent, high-performance desiccant dehumidification solution was required to address the issue, and restore optimal in-store conditions, without disrupting store operations.

The Solution

• Cross Hire Services provided a comprehensive temporary desiccant dehumidification system, designed to precisely control humidity and improve air quality within the store.
• Four (4) Munters desiccant dehumidifiers were supplied and installed, strategically positioned on the store’s roof to integrate with the existing air handling system. These units were selected for their ability to deliver reliable moisture removal in demanding commercial environments.
• To support the installation, our engineering team also supplied and fitted:
  • - 50 metres of 32A 415V power cable
  • - 20 metres of 300mm ducting
• The dehumidifiers were lifted into position using a HIAB crane, ensuring a safe and efficient rooftop installation.
• Once installed, full commissioning and testing were carried out, by our team, to verify system performance and airflow balance, ensuring effective humidity control throughout the store.
• This bespoke setup enabled a direct and consistent flow of dehumidified air into the internal air circulation system, significantly reducing the moisture load within the store environment.

The Outcome

• Following installation, the store experienced a substantial reduction in humidity and condensation levels, particularly around the refrigerated aisles.
• The system effectively removed excess airborne moisture, improving visibility through fridge doors, enhancing product presentation and contributing to a more comfortable shopping environment.
