Planned Maintenance & Disaster Recovery

Planned or Unplanned

Keeping site operational while plant down

Keep essential services running while permanent plant is offline for planned works or following a major incident.

Taking essential plant offline is never straightforward, especially when heating, cooling or ventilation needs to continue. Whether you're planning a shutdown or dealing with the aftermath of a flood, fire or major equipment failure, our experienced engineers work with your team to keep essential services running while repairs, replacement or reinstatement take place.

How Cross Rental Services Can Support Your Operations

  • Scheduled servicing, plant replacement or refurbishment: Planned Maintenance
  • Extended temporary cover following a major failure, emergency or incident: Disaster Recovery

Planned Maintenance

Take the plant offine, not the services it supports

From heaters to industrial chillers, temporary systems can cover scheduled servicing, plant-room refurbishment, boiler or chiller replacement and planned shutdowns. We also support phased works where buildings or processes must remain operational before permanent plant is ready.

Our engineers work alongside your facilities team and contractors to understand what needs to stay operational, how the temporary system will connect and how the changeover can be managed around your shutdown.

  • Planned shutdowns, plant room refurbishments and equipment replacement
  • Temporary heating, cooling, air conditioning, ventilation and dehumidification
  • Phased installations and changeovers around operational sites
  • Specialist engineering support for complex plant and critical services.

Disaster Recovery

A structured route back to normal

Restoring critical services after a failure is often only the first step. Permanent repairs, replacement plant or building reinstatement can take much longer. We can keep temporary equipment operating while that work continues, with technical support and changes to the hire arrangement where needed.

For an active breakdown where you need immediate cover, go directly to Emergency Hire.

  • Flood recovery with dehumidification, drying and temporary heating
  • Fire damage recovery with ventilation and temperature control where appropriate
  • Temporary HVAC support throughout repairs and building reinstatement
  • Experienced engineers supporting complex sites and changing recovery needs.

Why CRS

Benefits of hiring chillers from us

Six reasons customers choose Cross Rental Services for temporary cooling, from the size of the fleet to the people who install it.

From 5 kW portable units to 1 MW packaged chillers, our fleet covers process cooling, comfort cooling and low-temperature applications. Whatever the duty, we have a unit ready to ship.

Every hire starts with a conversation about your site. We size the plant, plan the pipework and power, and design a temporary system that fits around your operation rather than the other way round.

Got a question?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you design temporary HVAC systems for complex commercial and industrial sites?

Yes. Our qualified engineers assess the existing plant, heating or cooling duty, available space, site access and connections before specifying a temporary solution. We work across a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, including sites where essential building services or production processes must remain operational.

How far in advance should we arrange temporary HVAC for planned works?

As early as practical. Booking ahead allows time for a free site survey, specification and any enabling works, and helps secure equipment during busy periods.

Can you provide temporary HVAC during major plant room refurbishments and planned shutdowns?

Yes. We provide temporary heating, cooling, air conditioning and associated equipment during planned maintenance, plant replacement and refurbishment. Our engineers work with facilities teams and contractors to plan installation and commissioning around the shutdown programme, helping maintain essential services while permanent plant is offline.

Can temporary HVAC equipment be integrated with our existing building services?

Yes, subject to a site survey. Temporary boilers, chillers, air handling units and supporting equipment can be specified to work with suitable existing systems. Our engineers assess the duty, connection arrangements, access and installation requirements to determine an appropriate solution.

Can temporary equipment be installed before the permanent plant is switched off?

Yes. For planned works, we install and commission the temporary equipment first, where the site and installation allow. We plan all of this around your shutdown timeframe to minimise disruption.

Can you support HVAC recovery following flood or fire damage?

Depending on the condition of the building, temporary support can include heating, ventilation, dehumidification, drying and temperature control. Our engineers assess the site and specify equipment to support recovery and reinstatement while damaged areas or permanent systems are repaired.

Can you provide additional capacity for critical heating and cooling applications?

Additional or standby capacity can be considered as part of the temporary system design. For example, CRS has provided additional boiler capacity during an NHS hospital maintenance programme to help maintain heating and hot water. The arrangement depends on the duty, site conditions and equipment specification.

What engineering support is included throughout a temporary HVAC installation?

Our engineers support the project from initial site assessment and equipment specification through installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance. CRS provides 24/7 technical support, with remote telemetry and fuel management available for suitable installations. Temporary equipment can then be decommissioned and removed when permanent services are restored.
